Smoke Detectors

What is a Smoke Detector?

A smoke detector is a special tool that can smell the air in our houses, schools and any other place you go.  Even when you can't smell smoke it CAN.  When the smoke detector smells smoke it makes a loud noise, it is telling YOU to get out of your house safely.

What does a Smoke Detector look like?

A smoke detector looks like a small dish or plate on the ceiling of your home!

How do I know if a Smoke Detector is working?

By testing your smoke detectors once a month to make sure they are working.  You can test them by pushing the button on it with your finger or a broom stick.  The smoke detector will sound briefly, to let you know it is working!

Why does my Smoke Detector Chirp?

When your smoke detector chirps it is telling you that the batteries are low.  You should tell an ADULT so that they can put a new battery in.

What else do I need to know about Smoke Detectors?

You should replace the batteries in your Smoke Detector when you change your clock in the fall and spring.
