ICE SAFETY
Important Ice Safety Tips:
- New (Black Ice) is stronger than old (milky) ice.
- Ice closer to shore is weaker than ice farther out.
- Obstructions such as rocks, logs and plants weaken ice.
- Underground springs weaken ice.
- Water currents weaken ice.
- Ice covered by snow and/or water weakens ice.
Ice Safety Chart:
3 Inches - Cross Country Skiers
4 Inches - 1 Person Ice Fishing
5 Inches - 1 Snowmobile
6 Inches - 1 Ice Boat
7 Inches - Group Activities
8 Inches - 1 Automobile or Truck
9 Inches - Several Vehicles
